I suposse they are not aria opera, aren´t they?
I´m becoming a Wagnerian buff these days of lockdown. Yes, I know he wrote operas in german!!!! May I change my language interest from English to German? I´m not so Wagnerian enough!!!!!!

Keep in touch and stay put!

Go with Hyperion, by Hölderling. It´s a must-read, at least in Spanish!!!!!! May be you´ll get over your mood about the sound of German eventually!!!!

Stay put!!!

Ok, sorry. I´ve just reviewed the messages and what we have to do is a small review of the poem or even a song! I apologise, too may open screens on my work table, with Nacho´s blog, iSéneca, Gmail ...

As for the activities in the book, just do them comparing one of the song lyrics to the second poem.

Nacho, I also enjoyed your first recommendation, the YouTube channel about movie critics, at first it was weird but talking about different movies it´s been really helpful and the film critic has a very personal aproach to all kind of movies, thank you for sharing it!

Rafa said...

It´s absolutely amazing! you can´t stop listening to these people and their movie preferences. Really captivating points of view!!!!! But better to stop. It could be a Never ending story if don´t. Thanks Nacho

You re more than welcome.

You and I, the poem written by Roger McGough, has such an accurate tittle that even You/I frame every verse of the poem. These short words appear sixteen times starting or ending each verse, trying to incarcerate the binomial parts on every relationship. Their precise place on the written poem create some kind of a cage where opposites face each other: quietly/shouting, sides/blinkers, dove/hawk, olive banch/thorns, for instance. Everything is intended to be compressed throughout the verses and sentences that last for no more than five words. Succinct metaphores are used to deal with the contradictions of love, love that seems to vanish when we think about it as a splited universe between those who share love. Eventually, the poem squeezes out the dreadful bleakness felt by anyone when you fall out of love.

nacho said...

Wow!!! Sb s starting to genuinely sound like literary critic! And let me tell you that s not an easy poem to dissect either.

Rafa said...

I couldn´t cope with the lyrics of the songs, sorry. Even with the explanations that genius.com offers it was impossible for me to really trying to rephrase the songs in a meaningful way, no way to compare them with the poem! I´m really sorry.

nacho said...

You did great. I actually find the poem harder to tackle. I wasn’t necessarily expecting something so thorough. Some impressions on the song lyrics and the music style would ve been enough or just simply whether the song and the lyrics are your type of thing.

Rafa said...

You know, from a Wagnerian point of view these song are f.....g s..t!!!!!!!!
I beg your pardon!

nacho said...

Oh, dear! I didn’t have a clue your French was fluent too.

You are quite the dark horse, Mr Unknown

Rafa said...

Rafa said...

I´m very exposed!!!!!!!!!!!! mates!!!!!!!!!!!!! I´m the only and lonely target of our supa dupa teacher!!!!! Help!!!!!!! Lola, didn´t you finish your review of the song? Tam, I was also so overwhelmed with work this morning, but I´m your friend asking for help!!!!!!!

Lola said...

Water me down by singer Vagabon
The start-up of the song brings me in mind the rhythm of psychedelic music from the sixties. A step ahead I feel caught by the tone of her smoothy voice.
The lyrics seems to spread a kind of reproach, probably triggered by a lovers quarrel. However a sense of having learned a lesson is strong enough to put aside any chink of sorrow. The melody blends with this feeling bringing about a song which is far from being melancholy.
I acknowledge that this is not the type of music I use to listen to but I am always pleased to explore new fields.
P.S In the clip I cannot find the meaning of carnations hanging from the ceiling...

Please Nacho, I would like you to tell me what is wrong in the text. Thank you

Rafa said...

Another dark horse!!!!!!

nacho said...

Thanks for livening up the comment section, Rafa! I really appreciate it.
Would you mind sending me the song review to mudachickn@hotmail.com, Lola? I’ll give you some feedback via email. By the way, the rest of you that would like to get feedback on album, song or film reviews, email them to me.

Hi guys! I'm sorry for the delay writing the post but teleworking has been a never-ending matter for me this week.

Regarding the poems and the songs we've been dealing with, I can guess that all of them are involved in a breakdown context, in which the writer or singer seems to have been suffering for a long time and now gives way to a new life.

However, and I don't know why, first poem "You and I" has made me think more of a lifelong friends' relationship, in which both have got to a point of insecurity and mistrust that doesn't let them to understand and get along with the other mate. It's also quite valid for a lovers' frame, as most of people could have thought, but this has been my impression. The simple structure with controversial ideas of both sides has transmitted me more than other texts with more complex and confusing ideas, in which I get kind of puzzled.

Less equals more for me in this case.

I'll try to cope with the writing stuff tomorrow and send it to the teacher's mail.

Hope you'd be great.
